This critical thinking activity asks students to observe and reflect on political cartoons, in order to visually critique and analyze the artist’s message. The lesson can serve as a mini warm-up activity, annotation guide, and be modified to match an English OR History lesson. The graphic organizer lists key terminology for analysis (symbolism, analogy, irony,) followed by a description of the techniques, and lastly, application. Political cartoons/other visual images are not included for purchase, but can be found and properly cited from the Library of Congress education web site.
This is a great help for preparing students for our end of course exams.
