Many middle school students find ancient Egyptian mummies fascinating, and they often like animal mummies. This text will provide information about Egyptian animal mummies. This article will tell you why and how animal-mummies were made in ancient Egypt. Mummies can either be kept alive as pets or interred with the owners. Some mummies, however, are sacred and live in temples. In order to sell tourists fake mummies, ancient Egyptians created fakes.

This article is available in cloze text. This interactive approach can make reading even more fun. The article is presented in a student edition. There are many missing pieces. The teacher will read through the article to students, and they will try to guess what the missing information is. Students will then discuss the missing information with the class. The class will read the article again, including all missing words. Students can reread the text to improve their comprehension.

This reading activity is great to use as a supplement to any Egyptology unit, but it works great with  the Ancient Egyptian Animal Mummies Art Project.
