Project Based Learning: iDesign an App STEM Project (PBL)

The students design and describe their “app” from scratch. They then draw the logo and attach it to the group poster.

Because it is in their language, this lesson encourages creativity and is very popular with children. This lesson teaches contemporary art integration and will help your students be independent and creative.

Each student has to “develop” their own “app”—give it a name, describe what it does, etc.—and then design a logo.

You will find worksheets, templates, and templates to assist you in this process. I also have instructions for creating storyboards that your student can use as a guide. It encourages students to be creative!

To show off their creation, they create their app logo on post-it notes. These are added to large 21″x28″ classroom tablet posters. This poster can hold 24 post-it note, but you could have as many as 32.

The project encourages creativity and allows students to think independently. This is a great way to incorporate art in your curriculum.

This complete guide will show you how to present this lesson using examples.

The “iDesign an App”, handout, and the “App Preview”, handout are included.

To create an app logo poster, you will need all of the posters. Your printer settings will determine the exact dimensions of your iPad poster. Make sure you select “Fit to Page”.

An extension row has been added to this poster. This allows you to add 32 applications, depending on the size of your class.
