In this project, math, science, engineering, and art are all integrated in an exciting and enjoyable way. They will be building their own race car, which must be as fast as possible while keeping within their $29,000 budget.
The students choose from four car frames, design and build the race car. Students track the amount of money and modifications that they have made to the car while they design it.
Once everyone has finished building their cars, the students will grade the car’s features, the choice of vehicle, and any modifications. Students are given a rubric to grade their cars. The final grade is determined by the car’s position in the class.
Students are asked to reflect on why certain cars received a higher grade than others based upon the changes made.
This project can be done at any season.
**I highly suggest printing the cars on cardstock, as regular paper may be a bit too light.
Hope your students enjoy!
