This package has multiple art-integrated mathematics activities that target grades 3 through 5. They include perimeter, area and counting.

Activity One: “The Little Figure Portrait Worksheet”

Based on the mosaic portrait drawing, students answer several questions.

*Answer key provided.

Activity Two: “My Little Figure Portrait Project”

Create a figure-styled portrait for students using 1cm grid paper. Then, answer questions that are based on the artwork.

Extension idea: Each student should write an essay about their portrait. (Ex. My portrait is 52cm2. On a notecard. You can hang all of the student portraits up in front and then randomly give out the notecards. Students should match the fact cards to their work of art.

Activity Three: “The Instructed Little Figure Portrait Project”

The rules are provided to students so that they can create their own portrait using 1cm grid paper. To show how they came up with the idea, students must display their drawings.

Activity Four: “Follow the Fraction Rule”

To help students decorate/color blank figures, they are provided with a set rules to follow. The fraction students are required to expand must be equal to the number of people in their coloring pages.

There are 4 types of rule cards.

BONUS: Activity Five: “Little Figure Self-portrait”

This bonus lesson can be used as an additional activity, or as part of a student project.

Students make their self-portraits using the same style as a small figure.
